Econet AI, a subsidiary of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, has launched a major recruitment drive for more than 100 artificial intelligence (AI) engineers as the company expands its AI operations across the country.
The recruitment programme is expected to become the largest intake of engineers by a single company in Zimbabwe in recent years. The company said the initiative marks the beginning of the implementation of its broader artificial intelligence strategy.
According to Econet AI, applicants are required to have at least a university degree. The company said it has already received applications from engineers based in Zimbabwe as well as Zimbabwean professionals working in other countries.

Successful candidates will undergo intensive training in artificial intelligence before being deployed to work in different areas of the business. These include AI product development, customer support and other technology-focused roles.
The company said the recruitment is aimed at supporting the growing demand for artificial intelligence solutions across Zimbabwe. Econet AI is already working with businesses and organisations to accelerate the adoption of AI technologies and improve business operations.
As part of the programme, some of the engineers will be placed within companies and organisations to provide advisory services on artificial intelligence and digital transformation.
“Some of the engineers will be deployed within these companies to act as advisors, which is why Econet AI needs so many engineers right now,” the company said.
Econet AI Chief Executive Officer Navdeep Kapur confirmed the recruitment programme, saying the company is looking for Zimbabwean engineers with qualifications in electrical engineering, electronics, computer science and robotics.
He said applicants with honours degrees as well as postgraduate Master’s and PhD qualifications are also encouraged to apply as the company continues to expand its operations.
“We are already currently in the process of onboarding over 70 positions, and we will need more. Even if we don’t hire some now, we want them on file as we are growing very rapidly,” Kapur said.
Kapur added that the immediate focus is on recruiting engineers who will contribute to AI product development, although he indicated that additional employment opportunities are expected to become available as the company continues to grow.
