The 22-year-old driver of a Honda Fit that struck and killed Roman Catholic priest Father Regis Chikuni in Harare is facing a charge of culpable homicide.
The driver, Sean Gamu Makoni, is assisting police with investigations following the fatal accident at the intersection of Prince Edward Road and Samora Machel Avenue.
The accident occurred on August 29 at around 2.37am.

According to police, Father Chikuni was crossing Prince Edward Road when he was hit by the Honda Fit, which was travelling southwards.
The priest sustained severe head injuries and fractures to both legs and died at the scene.
Police attended the scene shortly after the accident was reported and took the body to Parirenyatwa Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
Father Chikuni was only identified at the mortuary on September 9, more than a week after the fatal accident.
Police said he was identified by a colleague and fellow priest, Mr Prince Murungweni.
Following the identification, Mr Murungweni informed police that Father Chikuni had been reported missing since August 28 at around 5pm.
The priest’s next of kin, Ngonidzashe Chikuni, was subsequently informed of the identification.
Police also took the Honda Fit involved in the accident to the Vehicle Inspection Department in Eastlea for inspection.
Makoni is facing a culpable homicide charge as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident continue.
Culpable homicide is a serious criminal charge relating to a person’s death, and the charge against Makoni remains subject to the outcome of police investigations and the court process.
Police have not indicated when Makoni is expected to appear in court.
