BREAKING:

Blunt-force trauma has been confirmed as the cause of death of Zimbabwean-born Nothabo Zandile Tshuma and her two daughters, who were found dead at their home in Great Denham, near Bedford, England, earlier this month.

Nothabo Zandile Tshuma, 42, who was known as Zandile, and her daughters, Natalie, 15, and Nala, five, were discovered dead in their £1.3 million detached home on 6 July after concerns were raised when they had not been seen for several days.

On Monday, Bedfordshire Police confirmed that post-mortem examinations found blunt-force trauma to be the cause of death. The update came as the man suspected of killing the three family members appeared before a court in South Africa.

Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma, 45, appeared at the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court, where he was remanded in custody. He was arrested in Kensington, Johannesburg, on Friday following an international investigation.

Tshuma, a British citizen of Zimbabwean heritage who is also known as Mark, is wanted in the United Kingdom in connection with the deaths of his wife and daughters.

The United Kingdom’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised three murder charges against the 45-year-old. Authorities have also begun the legal process to return him to the United Kingdom to face prosecution.

Bedfordshire Police said extradition proceedings are underway as investigators continue to work with authorities in South Africa and other international partners.

Detective Inspector Lee Martin, the senior investigating officer, said the case had attracted significant media attention and urged caution regarding reports circulating online.

“This case has attracted a huge amount of media coverage and we are aware of international reports circulating which contain some speculation about this case,” Martin said.

“With three murder charges authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service, proceedings around this case remain active and we are not able to provide any further detail at this stage. We continue to work with the CPS and international partners as the case progresses.”

The South African Police Service (SAPS) said Tshuma was traced and arrested through “swift operational co-ordination and intelligence-led policing.” Investigations and extradition proceedings are continuing.
