ZIFA Hosts FIFA Strategic Planning Expert to Strengthen Football Governance

HARARE — FIFA Strategic Planning and Implementation expert Stewart Regan is in Zimbabwe to meet the leadership of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) as part of efforts to strengthen football governance and strategic development.

Regan’s visit forms part of FIFA’s ongoing support for ZIFA as the association works to improve football administration and build a sustainable football ecosystem.

The experienced sports administrator is expected to provide guidance on modern football governance, strategic planning and sustainable business models aimed at supporting the long-term growth of the game in Zimbabwe.

Regan previously served as Chief Executive of the Scottish Football Association, where he oversaw football administration and governance during his tenure.

He has also held senior leadership positions as chief executive of Yorkshire County Cricket Club and served as a director at the English Football League Championship, bringing extensive experience in sports administration.

According to ZIFA, the visit is designed to strengthen institutional capacity and support the implementation of international best practices in football governance.

The engagement is also expected to focus on improving strategic planning, enhancing organisational structures and promoting financial sustainability within Zimbabwean football.

FIFA has been working with its member associations around the world to strengthen governance, accountability and professional administration through technical assistance and capacity-building programmes.

Regan’s visit comes as ZIFA continues implementing reforms aimed at developing a professionally managed football sector capable of competing effectively on the continental and global stage.

The association says building a financially sustainable and well-governed football ecosystem remains one of its key priorities as it seeks to advance the development of the sport across Zimbabwe.
