National police spokesperson Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing. He stated that the police are appealing to members of the public for information that could help locate the suspect.
“The ZRP is appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of Jumani Chuma, aged 43, who is wanted in connection with a case of theft which occurred in Victoria Falls,” Nyathi said.
The incident reportedly came to light after the company conducted an internal audit. During the process, it was discovered that a total of US$86,989 was unaccounted for from the vault under Chuma’s control.
Police said the suspect allegedly went missing on March 30, 2026, around the same time the funds were discovered to be missing. Authorities believe his disappearance is linked to the missing cash.
The case has raised concerns around internal security controls within companies handling large amounts of money, particularly in the cash-in-transit sector. However, police have not released further details about the company involved.
Nyathi urged anyone with information that could assist investigations to report to the nearest police station. He emphasized the importance of public cooperation in resolving the case quickly.
“Anyone with information that might assist with investigations should contact the nearest police station,” he said.
Police have not indicated whether any arrests have been made or if there are other suspects involved. Investigations are continuing as authorities work to locate Chuma and recover the missing funds.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police continues to monitor the situation and has assured the public that updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
