American billionaire media proprietor and philanthropist Ted Turner has died aged 87.
He founded CNN, the first 24-hour cable news channel as well as television network TNT.
Regarded as a pioneer of the 24-hour television news channel that revolutionized how TV news operated, he founded CNN in 1980 in Atlanta, Georgia, a network that gained global prominence for its ability to cover major news events including the Gulf War of 1991.

He founded and famously donated one billion dollars to the United Nations Foundation in 1998, viewing the UN as indispensable to tacking humanity’s greatest challenges and driving global progress.
He married three times including to Oscar-winning actress Jane Fonda whom he later divorced in 2001.
