MONTREAL — Brazilian midfielder Casemiro made his debut for Inter Miami on Saturday despite an ongoing Major League Soccer (MLS) investigation into the circumstances surrounding his transfer to the club.
The former Manchester United midfielder played the full 90 minutes as Inter Miami secured a 1-0 victory over CF Montréal in a league match played in Canada.
Casemiro’s debut comes days after MLS confirmed it had opened an investigation into an alleged tampering matter related to his move to Inter Miami.

The league said it is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the transfer and has withheld details of a settlement between Inter Miami and LA Galaxy over Casemiro’s discovery rights until the investigation is completed.
Under MLS regulations, clubs must negotiate discovery rights with any team that has previously listed a player before signing him outside the league’s draft or free agency system. LA Galaxy held Casemiro’s discovery rights before he joined Inter Miami.
Despite the off-field scrutiny, Casemiro featured throughout the match as Inter Miami extended their winning run to six consecutive league games.
The decisive moment came in the 81st minute when Luis Suarez converted a penalty after German Berterame was fouled following a collision with Montréal defender Efrain Morales inside the penalty area.
Berterame was knocked unconscious during the incident and was taken from the stadium by ambulance for medical treatment.
Inter Miami interim coach Guillermo Hoyos later confirmed that Berterame had regained consciousness and was recovering.
“The blow was very strong, but he is recovering,” Hoyos said after the match.
Suarez’s penalty was his ninth league goal of the season and his sixth in his last three matches, continuing the Uruguayan striker’s impressive scoring form.
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi was rested for the match as he continues his recovery following Argentina’s run to the FIFA World Cup final.
