BREAKING:

Wicknell Chivayo has publicly responded to renewed allegations linked to Zimbabwe’s 2023 elections and his ongoing divorce proceedings in South Africa, insisting that neither matter makes him a criminal suspect.

In a strongly worded statement shared on social media, Chivayo dismissed attempts to revive what he described as “old allegations” relating to elections held in Zimbabwe three years ago. He also criticised references to his divorce proceedings in Johannesburg, saying civil litigation should not be interpreted as criminal conduct.

Chivayo said his divorce matter was a private dispute between estranged spouses and argued that the existence of an interim court order or rule nisi issued in South Africa did not make him a fugitive or person of interest.

“My divorce matter is exactly what it is…a PRIVATE and CIVIL dispute between ESTRANGED spouses,” he said.

The businessman also addressed allegations surrounding the supply of election materials to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, stating that he had no involvement in the process.

According to Chivayo, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission previously issued a public statement distancing him from the supply of election materials. He further said the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission conducted a two-year forensic investigation into the matter and cleared him of wrongdoing.

“As such, the so-called FIC Reports which are being recycled from two years ago are of no moment whatsoever and a mere smear campaign against me for my unapologetic support for ZANU PF and its sister revolutionary party, the ANC,” Chivayo said.

He also spoke about the scrutiny he faces because of his wealth and lifestyle, saying wealthy Africans are often subjected to suspicion and criticism on social media. Chivayo referenced his ownership of private jets and Rolls-Royce vehicles, arguing that financial success should not automatically result in allegations of criminality.

“I appreciate that in Africa, being wealthy or owning private jets and owning a fleet of Rolls-Royces automatically makes you criminal,” he said.

Despite the criticism, Chivayo said he remains focused on his business ambitions and personal goals. He described himself as “unprovoked, unshakeable and unstoppable,” adding that social media attacks would not distract him from pursuing what he called his “multi-billionaire goals.”

The businessman ended his statement with a metaphor comparing himself to an elephant that is not disturbed by barking dogs, saying he would continue to move forward regardless of criticism.

The remarks come amid growing online discussion surrounding his business dealings, political affiliations and personal life, all of which have continued to attract public attention in Zimbabwe and beyond.
